1 Scope
This part of GB/T 13663 specifies the terms, definitions, symbols and abbreviated terms, material, product classification, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation and storage of extruded polyethylene (PE) pipes for water supply (hereinafter referred to as "pipes") using PE compound as raw materials.
In conjunction with the other parts of GB/T 13663, it is applicable to PE piping systems and their assembly for general purposes of pressure water delivery and drinking water delivery and distribution with water temperature not greater than 40 °C and maximum operating pressure (MOP) not greater than 2.0 MPa.
Note 1: The reference operating temperature is 20 °C. See Annex C of GB/T 13663.1-2017 for the pressure reduction coefficient of operating temperature between 0 °C and 40 °C.
Note 2: It is the responsibility of the purchaser to make the appropriate selections from these aspects as specified in this part, taking into account their particular requirements and any relevant regulations and standards or codes.
This part is applicable to PE pipes for water supply with a nominal outside diameter of 16 mm to 2,500 mm manufactured with PE 80 and PE 100 compound.

3 Terms, definitions, symbols and abbreviated terms
For the purposes of this document, the terms, definitions, symbols and abbreviated terms given in GB/T 13663.1-2017 and GB/T 19278-2003 apply.
4 Material
4.1 PE compound
PE 80 or PE 100 compound shall be used for manufacturing pipes, which shall meet the requirements of GB/T 13663.1-2017.
4.2 Classification and designation of PE compound
PE compound shall be classified and designated according to the minimum required strength (MRS) specified in GB/T 18475, as shown in Table 1.
Minimum required strength (MRS) is determined in pipe form and extrapolated. The long-term hydrostatic strength of the compound shall be tested according to GB/T 18252. The pressure tests shall be carried out at three temperatures as a minimum, of which two temperatures are fixed at 20 °C and 80 °C, and the third temperature can be freely selected between 30 °C and 70 °C to determine the lower confidence limit (σLPL) of 20 °C and 50 years. The MRS value is extrapolated from the lower confidence limit (σLPL) of 20 °C and 50 years.
Note: Internationally, ISO 9080 and ISO 12162 are generally used for classification and designation of PE compound. ISO 9080 and ISO 12162 correspond to GB/T 18252 and GB/T 18475 respectively.
