Ethylene oxide for industrial use
1 Scope
This standard specifies the requirements, test methods, inspection rules, as well as packaging, marking, transport, storage and safety of ethylene oxide for industrial use.
This standard is applicable to ethylene oxide produced by the direct oxidation of ethylene. This product is mainly used as a synthetic additive, an intermediate for pharmaceuticals, chemical fibers, dyes, etc.
Molecular formula: C2H4O
Structural formula:
Relative molecular mass: 44.05 (as per the international relative atomic mass in 2001)

4.1 Warning
Attention is drawn to the necessity for taking precautions to safeguard the health and safety of the personnel conducting the test against the potential hazard which may arise from the test procedures specified in the test method. The operator shall take proper safety and health measures.
4.2 General requirements
Unless otherwise stated, only recognized analytically pure reagents and Grade III water as specified in GB/T 6682 shall be used in the analysis.
Unless otherwise specified, the reference titration solutions, preparations and products used in the analysis shall be prepared in accordance with the requirements of GB/T 601 and GB/T 603.
4.3 Appearance
Add liquid laboratory samples to the 50 mL colorimetric tube with stopper and visually inspect axially under daylight lamp or sunlight.
4.4 Determination of ethylene oxide content
4.4.1 Method summary
The mass fraction of ethylene oxide is calculated by subtracting the total mass fraction of various impurities in ethylene oxide from 100.00.
4.4.2 Calculation of results
The mass fraction, ω1, of ethylene oxide content, expressed as %, shall be calculated using Formula (1):
